Elden ring controller or keyboard – Which one should choose?

A keyboard and mouse are required to play Elden Ring on a computer, but is a gamepad absolutely necessary? Elden ring controller or keyboard? Here is what we believe, though.

Here’s what to anticipate if you’ve never used a Elden ring controller or keyboard to play a FromSoftware game. The mouse buttons effectively serve as the L1 and R1 buttons in the game’s conventional key bindings, with the left click representing a light attack with your primary weapon and the right click representing an attack with your offhand weapon (or a block if you use a shield).

By pressing Shift and the left mouse button, you can make a powerful assault with your primary weapon by Elden ring controller or keyboard. Press the Shift + Right Mouse button to activate a weapon skill.

The combat controls in Elden ring controller or keyboard take some getting used to, but you can still play the game with them if you’re willing to learn and stay with them until attacking comes naturally to you. The D-Pad controls, though, are the problem for me.

The D-Pad on the Elden ring controller or keyboard is used to switch between goods, spells, and weapons. You must fully release the WASD keys or the mouse to change weapons or items when using KB/M controls because the arrow keys are the D-default Pad’s key bindings. Elden ring controller or keyboard is not the best arrangement since if you need to swap to a new item, you can end up losing to swift foes or bosses.

Thankfully, most of the game’s keys may be changed, with the exception of the menu and the map, which continue to be the Esc and G buttons, respectively. You can change the D-Pad controls to use 1234 for easier access rather than the arrow keys.

The rest of the controls are mostly OK, however you can again alter them to suit your preferences. The Pouch feature, however, is something we wish might be improved. To utilize a preset item, hit one of the D-Pad buttons while holding down the Triangle/Y button on the controller. Consider it a shortcut menu that will save you from having to shuffle through options in the heat of a battle.

The Elden ring controller or keyboard control binding for this is “E,” but in our experience, using this didn’t feel natural. Therefore, to use an item in our bindings, hold E while pressing a number from 1-4. This frequently required us to remain immobile for a while, which frequently resulted in fatalities.

The on-screen prompts are another area that needs improvement. Elden Ring for PC doesn’t automatically change the device for on-screen prompts; instead, you must choose it manually. This implies that in order to switch to Keyboard and Mouse, you must access the options menu and disable the display of Xbox buttons in the in-game prompts. Even though it’s a relatively small issue, we wished the procedure could have been automated.

Keyboard and Mouse vs. Controller – The Verdict

So, should you use a Elden ring controller or keyboard to play Elden Ring on a computer? If you ask us, you should definitely use a controller if you can because doing so simply feels more comfortable. While a keyboard and mouse can be used to play, there is a learning curve involved, and using the pouch with this control arrangement is also challenging.

Fortunately, Elden ring controller or keyboard for PC supports a variety of controllers, including the DualSense and the most recent Xbox controllers. But keep in mind that you will still receive Xbox button prompts if you play Elden Ring on a PC with a PlayStation controller.
